John Merrien

Born in Guernsey in 1975, John spent his formative years gaining a Batchelor’s Degree in Organization and Management Studies, a Master’s Degree in Corporate Governance and Administration, admission into the Corporate Governance Institute and of course, qualification as a Chartered Accountant. More recently, he has also qualified as a STEP (Society of Trust and Estates) Practitioner and as a Prince 2 project manager.

John completed his accounting qualification with Rawlinson & Hunter, Chartered Accountants in 2003, having spent time working from Guernsey and London. After a short spell with another fiduciary, John (like many clients of Books & Co.) never really enjoyed working for other people and since 2008 has provided independent accountancy and governance consultancy to a number of companies and individuals both in Guernsey and further afield.

Sensing a genuine gap in the market for a new forward looking firm of Chartered Accountants which can offer all the benefits of the latest technologies to smaller clients who have never previously been offered these services, John founded Books & Company Limited in 2012.

Outside of work, John has been adopted by partner Rachel and children Flynn and Thea who are both 9 years old. He is a Scout Leader and active within his Church community. John enjoys sailing on his Bruce Roberts ketch, cycling and starts (almost) every day with a swim in the sea at Guernsey’s beautiful Havelet bay.
